Saturday racing was slow to start due to only 2-4 knots at 155 degrees. Fleet was sent in but asked not to derig as race officials waited for the storm front to pass. Wind kicked in by 3:00 pm at 270 degrees and racing commenced at 15 knots gusting to 18 allowing for 2 races to be completed for laser and radials. Other fleets suffered more damages and capsizes and over the two days a minimal number of competitors took part given the extra- ordinary conditions.
Sunday brought cold air and frigid churned up waters. Wind was a steady 20 -25 all day allowing for 3 good races. The course was simplified to up downs from the previous days square form to prevent a repeat several disastrous capsizes at the gybe marks. Half the fleet decided upon the conditions not to attempt to sail or retired. Wind held steady at 285 all day with some slight variation from time to time. Competitors were tested to up their skill level to match the top calibre of the fleet and many courageous youngsters, some of whom came long distances, like Kingston, Montreal, Quebec city and Sarnia made their trip worthwhile. Results below reflect the conditions as they were. Thanks to all the coaches, regatta organizers, on the water judges and support people.
